Red Headed Stranger Cocktail

On Episode 60 of The Charlie Tonic Hour you can hear me rave about a really delicious cocktail that I had at Bakersfield in OTR here in Cincinnati. Even though I was disappointed not to get another one of their barrel-aged Manhattans, I was able to console myself in the arms of a Red Headed Stranger. This drink brings together three different kinds of fire into one delicious drink. Wild Turkey, Cayenne Pepper and a ginger liquor called Domaine de Canton combine to give this drink quite a kick. I’ve been thinking about the flavor and looking forward to heading back to Bakersfield for another drink and some of their amazing looking tacos but until then they were nice enough to provide me with the recipe on a postcard. So here it is. This Valentine’s day, go ahead and have a fling with a Red Headed Stranger.

Red Headed Stranger

2 ounces Wild Turkey Bourbon
1 ounce Domaine de Canton
2 pinches of Cayenne Pepper
Squeeze of lemon
2 dashes Angostura bitters

Add the Cayenne, lemon and bitters to a shaker glass and stir to dissolve the Cayenne.  Add the Wild Turkey and Domaine de Canton and shake ingredients over ice until cold. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with candied ginger and enjoy.
